fighting the forces

Every time I get an email from these guys I swear I'm going to post something about it, but somehow I never get around to writing. I was always (and still am) a huge fan of the tv series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. So a few years ago I stumbled upon a site called Slayage: The Online International Journal of Buffy Studies. Slayage is a project composed by a group of professors and scholars who have written some really interesting academic essays based on the show (and later extending to other shows written by Joss Whedon, aka the "Whedonverses").
In May 2004, they held the first Slayage Conference on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, in which "three hundred and ninety Buffyologists from all over the world gathered in Nashville, Tennessee, to talk (and sing) Buffy and listen to over 180 papers on BtVS." Oh, how I wanted to be a fly on the wall at that conference! But I was too intimidated to even think about attending. I mean, I really love the show, but I don't think I'm equipped to carry on an academic conversation of that caliber, at least based on some of the essays I've read on the Slayage site. Well, even though the series has ended and is now in syndication, the project has continued. The second conference, SC2: The Slayage Conference on the Whedonverses is scheduled for this coming Memorial weekend (May 26-28, 2006) and this time it's right here in Georgia! As for cost, it says "The registration fee for SC2 will be $125 until April 1, and will cover the conference, four breakfasts (Friday-Monday), three lunches (Friday-Sunday), and the Thursday night reception. (Registration paid after April 1 will be $150.) Friday night banquet tickets may be purchased for $25." I'd totally pay that. But I wonder...do you think you would have to talk, or could you just listen? If there's a sing-a-long, I'd definitely chime in! But more importantly, would we be allowed to take pictures?? ;) To me this is like a way-cooler version of a Trekkie convention. heheh
Of course I think I'd be too chicken to go it alone, so...anybody interested?

I suppose it is no accident that you declare jojoware your favorite person, then extend an invitation to the Slayer Conference.
I'm sure you two will have a really fun time.
Has anybody seen my JLP CD?
"Did you forget about me
Misses Duplicity
I hate to bug you in the middle of dinner
It was a slap in the face
How quickly I was replaced
And are you thinking of me when you talk Slayer?"
xxooxx,
Former Supposed Infatuated Favorite Person
And whomever did their photoshopping ought to be shot...er...spiked with Mr. Pointy. IMHO
I'm sure there is no "speaking" requirement if you attend. Have they lined up any stars to attend?
I think Oz (The Italian Job, Four Kings)and Willow (American Pie) are the only ones with much post-buffy success. Xander was on some made to be forgotten series on the Lifetime channel. And Jonathan has a recurring role on Gilmore Girls. Faith did the cheerleading movie.
Okay, I guess I have to concede that Angel has kept working too.
ha ha ha that is a pretty crap job of photoshopping.
Thanks for the new picture! The other was pretty sacreligious.
I guess I have been in the coffin so long that I didn't realize you had three posts.
Fist of all I quit my contract job tonight because it was getting in the way of my blogging - both reading and writing them!
Second - after just attending a "conference" of extreme fans I was like a horror retard compared to most of the others. Devil's Rejects fans were quoting lines (which I can do if I am quoting LOTR, almost line and verse of all three, a bit scary) You don't have to talk or make friends but it is more fun if you do. It is a great escape to be around serious fans.
And even though John doesn't get it - I know this invitation was for ME!!! I must admit the price is a bit high if there are no stars.
