Click
We went to see the movie Click last night. I know that most of the reviews have ranged from lukewarm to bad (except for the San Francisco Chronicle who gave it a perfect 100, thankyouverymuch!), but I have to say that I laughed my ass off throughout almost the entire movie! The movie was very 13 Going On 30 (which I loved) meets Punch Drunk Love (which I also loved) meets A Christmas Carol. The only thing that kept distracting me during the movie was knowing that my 12-year-old daughter had seen it the day before -- let's just say that the PG-13 rating was pushing it a bit (more like borderline-R). Of course I could have predicted that with an Adam Sandler movie, but I didn't know ahead of time that she and her friends were going to see it, and the previews looked pretty innocent. But aside from the crude humor, believe it or not, the movie was really quite thought-provoking at times, and also very funny! I've always liked Adam Sandler, so if you're also a fan, I'm sure you won't be disappointed in this one. :)

Good to know. I never agree with the critics. I want to laugh and be entertained. I tend to like "guy humor" and I love Adam Sandler, more as an actor in movies than before with his stand-up and songs. I was just listening to him on an old CD this weekend and thinking how far he has come. I love all the sweet comedies that are so him. Waterboy, 50 first dates, Spanglish. He is a keeper. I plan to see it.
I went to see Cars on Saturday. I still love a cartoon movie even when I am not taking a kid.
Tania wanted to see 'Click' yesterday (I had no idea what movie she was talking about). When I saw the poster I remembered.
Instead we saw "Cars" - which was a very good movie. I have the impression that the animated films are better made, with better story and dialogue than the live action films.
BTW, in Quebec, "Click" is rated G with the subtext, "Not recommended for young children." - which basically makes it a PG rating (which is what it is in Ontario).
I had zero interest in seeing Click, based on solely on the way it's being marketed (cue slow-mo shot of well-endowed jogger). But then a friend saw it and said he cried three times during it, completely unlike him. I guess it's one of those subversive summer flicks that gets you in the door with cheap laughs and then makes you walk out thinking - one of my favorite Hollywood tricks that they don't pull often enough.
